NEET UG 2026 Exam Cancelled: Reasons, Re-Exam Date, CBI Probe & Latest Updates

The National Testing Agency (National Testing Agency) has officially cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026 after serious allegations of a large-scale paper leak and exam irregularities. This unprecedented decision has affected approximately 22.79 lakh students across India and abroad and has sparked nationwide concern about the integrity of India’s most important medical entrance examination.

Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?

According to the NTA, the cancellation was based on findings from law-enforcement agencies and central authorities indicating that the examination process had been compromised. Investigators reportedly discovered a so-called “guess paper” that matched a substantial number of actual questions, including around 120 questions in Chemistry and significant overlap in Biology.

The case first gained momentum after the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group uncovered evidence suggesting that leaked materials were sold to students for amounts ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh. Following these revelations, the Government of India transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive probe.

    Official NTA Announcement

The NTA stated that, with the approval of the Government of India, the examination “could not be allowed to stand” due to the findings of the investigation. As a result:

    • The NEET UG 2026 exam held on 3 May 2026 stands cancelled.
    • A fresh examination will be conducted on new dates.
    • Existing registrations will remain valid.
    • Students do not need to register again.
    • No additional examination fee will be charged.
    • Revised admit cards will be issued before the re-exam.

NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Date: When Will It Be Conducted?

The NTA Director General indicated that the revised schedule is expected to be announced within 7–10 days from the cancellation announcement. Candidates should regularly monitor the official websites:

    • NTA Official Website
    • NEET Official Portal

Fresh admit cards and examination instructions will be uploaded there once the new date is finalized.

    How Many Students Are Affected?

The cancellation impacts nearly 22.79 lakh medical aspirants, making it one of the largest examination disruptions in Indian educational history. Students from every state, including major coaching hubs such as Kota and Sikar, now face renewed uncertainty and the challenge of preparing for another high-stakes test.

    Supreme Court Developments

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court of India, requesting that the re-examination be conducted under judicial supervision. The petition seeks structural reforms and greater accountability in national entrance examinations.

    Student Reactions Across India

The decision has triggered widespread protests and emotional reactions. While many students support the cancellation as a necessary step to preserve fairness, others are distressed by the need to restart their preparation after months of intense study and stress. Student organizations have also protested outside NTA offices demanding stronger safeguards against future paper leaks.

What NEET Aspirants Should Do Now

    1. Continue Preparation Without a Break

Treat the upcoming re-exam as a second opportunity. Maintain daily revision and continue solving mock tests.

    2. Focus on NCERT Thoroughly

The NEET syllabus and pattern are expected to remain unchanged, so students should strengthen their command over NCERT Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.

    3. Avoid Rumours

Rely only on official NTA notifications and credible news sources.

    4. Preserve Login Credentials

Keep your application number, password, and registered email and mobile number accessible.

    5. Take Care of Mental Health

The extra preparation period can be mentally exhausting. Build a balanced study routine with adequate sleep and breaks.
